It is easy to feel defeated in a world which seems continually to put roadblocks in one's way. Our expectations can be crushed, we may given to self-doubt or simply fall prey to the low spirits that often follow disappointment.
As Maya is pointing out, however, it is good to remember that we always have choices to make, that we can consolidate our mental and emotional resources and do something to effect change in our lives, even if that is simply altering the attitude with which we approach our life and its problems.

Perspective is integral to shaping our lives. How we feel about a particular challenge in our life often depends on the vantage point from which we are viewing things. Becoming curious about the multi-dimensional aspects that make up any situation is vital for shaping it in ways that elicit more life, though this is not a quick fix.
Moving through any challenge is best approached as a process.

Solving problems takes time ideally, is best approached with care, a certain degree of caution and reserve. This allows us the time to make observations and to process all the information that those observations elicit. It makes depth of understanding more probable which in turn will render any decisions reached decisions that are more solid and dependable.
I'm not suggesting here that if we take our time and carefully attend to a problem that we are going to reach a place free of uncertainty and doubt, merely that having more information on which to base our decisions helps to minimize the amount of doubt and uncertainty we are dealing with.
I personally am not absolutely certain about too many things in life. I'm not after purity. That's just another way to make yourself crazy. Doing my best to the degree I am capable is all I ask of myself and that varies depending on circumstances.

We need to sincerely and carefully tend to all the challenges in our life not with the aim of making perfect choices, but simply employing the best of our hearts and minds in the earnest attempt to work sensitively with the material at hand.
Our choices may be nonetheless flawed. That isn't a crime, that's life. Our responsibility is to work with the material we've been given, to learn from our mistakes and get up and try again. Wallowing in misplaced guilt and shame is a losing proposition. It won't make us better people.

However, cultivating faith in yourself and your God-given abilities will make you a better person--the sort of person who is willing to summon the courage and strength it takes to keep trying new things...even if that is just a new shift in attitude.
